For the technic Geeks.

Post by Hamslice »

Here is Bricksets brief on the geometry of the new 11x11 curved gear. (from the new bucket wheel ex)

http://brickset.com/article/23288/the-g ... -gear-rack

But check this out. it matches up perfectly with the Hailfire Droid wheel.

I had a read through that yesterday and it certainly has its advantages. Attaching to the new gear is easier, but like the writer mentions, creating a roller bearing has yet to be successfully accomplished simply. I'm sure it's possible, it's just not as simple as putting spheres between two gears.

Isn't the Hailfire Droid wheel really expensive? Or is it being re-released in another set?

I WISH! It is really expensive. That part now sells (per part) for about double the original price of the set it came in and there were 2 in that set. That was a solid investment est if you got one!

I've got the set. It's actually a really nice set I would be kind of 50/50 on breaking it up to use just the wheels.

I bought that set back in the day just for those wheels. I guess I'm not the only one now who sees the advantages of those parts.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on ONE of those coveted hailfire droid wheels a couple weeks ago in a bin of used LEGO a local dad was offloading. That's when I realized how expensive they are to buy now.
'Course a few club members have since made me realize I'm now stuck with the dilemma of forking out $40+ for a second wheel or making some $ and parting with the one I have ('cause the most popular MOC use requires TWO, to create a turntable).

(For now, I'm just going to sit on it. Who knows, maybe one day I'll find another bin of LEGO with one in it. Yeah right.) :p

Hey Jason et. al.

Have you seen what one fan of Technic and Trains (Sariel) has done with the new gears (and an SBrick)?

Has anyone else noticed that the price for the BWE coming out Germany and the Netherlands on Bricklink is nearly $100 cheaper than in stores here? I know I've talked to Paul a little bit about shipping out of Germany, but what are your thoughts?
