Technically most/all big cats are panthers. "Panther" isn't a species, but rather the genus of all species of lions, tigers, jaguars, and leopards. Black Panthers are jaguars or leopards that are like the opposite of albino's, turning them all black.

In these sets, when they were at toy fair, the two cats initially revealed were both described as jaguars (black and spotted), implying that the sets represented jungles in Central or South America. The addition of the tiger kinda messes with this though, as tigers don't occur in the wild in the same places as jaguars. Leopards and tigers do possibly have some overlapping range in India though.

The inclusion of crocodiles/alligators is also interesting, but further suggests these jungles are meant to represent India.

Dang, those look super cool but would probably be pretty expensive on Bricklink per piece.
