Settlers of Catan
Hello! I have recently been designing a settler's of catan gave board out of lego. Right now it is just a digital design that I designed and built in SR3D, but I'm working on getting all the parts I need to build it.
The only issue right now is that the plume I'm using for the wheat is the only plume that doesn't come in yellow. So I will either have to build a bunch of another color and pull out the yellow modelling paint, or make a substitution.
Maybe when I'm done I'll have to show up to a VLC meeting and we can play a game!

Re: Settlers of Catan
way to combine 2 of my favorite things! cant wait to play it.
Re: Settlers of Catan
Wow that looks awesome and if you didn't tell me, I'd think it was the real thing (and not just digitally rendered).

Re: Settlers of Catan
Wow, those renders are fantastic.
Are the citys/settlements just placed on? I can't see how they connect.

Thanks for the feedback
The settlements/cities have a "peg" which slides into that triangular space where the hexes meet. So that don't click in, but they sit in there nicely.

Yea definitely. Would be cool to create a bunch of them. I'm really into Agricola right now, but I don't really see that as a good lego game candidate.Brickhead wrote:Sweet moc though . - love the cities and knights expansion for settlers . Ever though of doing any other board games in lego ?
Thanks! I'm my own frikken hero right now too hahah. And ya, I have seen some pretty amazing things come from members of this club. I need to meet you guys, and put faces to these creations.soundwave wrote: another celebrity on our midst. congrats on the TBB feature. you are my hero.
Hah yea. I considered coming up with something, but i think I'm going to just have to buy a deck. But I will use lego dice! ... I guess I could print my own cards with lego images..RadStar wrote:Making the cards outta lego is gonna be a pain ;D

Jamie Berard is the person responsible for designing Green Grocer.chump wrote:HHH, that's cool. Can't find his Green Grocer, though.JamesH wrote:http://www.flickr.com/photos/moonbase/242143605/Brickhead wrote:Ever though of doing any other board games in lego ?

Re: Settlers of Catan
Oh you mean THE Green Grocer. Not, a MOC'd up revisionist version. So Jamie Berard did HHH, as well. Got it.Gumby wrote: Jamie Berard is the person responsible for designing Green Grocer.

Re: Settlers of Catan
if you like agricola , Le havre is good too . Longer and more complicated then agricola , for the hard core board gamer. Caylus is MANDATORY as well in my opinion as the best strategy boardgame

Re: Settlers of Catan
Oh Le havre... I have heard of that. It's by Uwe Rosenberg as well. I definitely have to check that one out. And Caylus I cant say I have even heard of, which is probably heresy to you. But I just checked it out on boardgamegeek.com and it looks pretty awesome.
I've kinda only recently been pulled into the strategy board game thing. I never really was a board game guy when i was younger. I think Catan caused an awakening. But I'm finding that I really enjoy the more complex games that provide more possibilities in gameplay.

Re: Settlers of Catan
I dunno... but this seems kinda lame to me. Some guy makes a not extremely impressive (but kinda neat) Lego Carcassonne after seeing my Lego Catan, and then HE ends up on Kotaku.com. http://ca.kotaku.com/5778243/you-cannot ... onne-sorry
Siiigh. I guess its because the Kotaku guy found it interesting how expensive it was. But this Cal guy who made the Carcassonne didn't even know about bricklink. OBVIOUSLY not a real fan of LEGO, amirite? haha. OH well, at least the TBH article about my Catan got a link in that article.

Re: Settlers of Catan
worse is that the guy has never played Carcasonne. If he had, he would know that you often have the place tiles in holes with 3 or 4 tiles around them. Even placing in a corner would be impossible with his interlocking crap going on. Sign... Some people's children.

Re: Settlers of Catan
I'll give the guy an "A" for effort, since I've never really used the software all that extensively before. However, if it were me, I think I would be embarrassed to have posted it. Perhaps a lot of thought went into it but it doesn't show. It does look like it is capitalizing on michael's foray into Lego rendered gaming. Not that michael has the lock on it, but I would be wanting to "plus" it, if I were.
The amusing thing is that although it may add up to a lot of money, the pieces used look very basic and I would hazard a guess that each one of us could probably make this with our individual collections.
Again, not to knock the effort, as I don't know what it takes to do and this seemingly is his first try. However, I do wish that he had put a little bit more heart and soul into it.

Re: Settlers of Catan
I agree, the general crappiness of it is an issue. He put a lot more thought into making them interlock than into making each tile interesting. It's supposed to be a tile game, and each tile doesn't need to be 2 bricks thick. A simple 8x8 plate with pretty dressings on top would have been a way better use of those $2000 worth of pieces.
